I
Welcome to Sherman's World!
Hello! Are you looking for a gift for a young reader? Something to celebrate moving up to a new grade? Books for summer camp? For a road trip? For the beach?
Are you a teacher looking for new books that even reluctant readers will enjoy?
I am finishing my 22nd year as a volunteer firefighter and that experience led me to write my first book, "Sherman's World - Finding Courage." I enjoyed the process so much that I began drafting and writing a ghost story with the same characters (Sherman and Gus) and a bit of history in a new adventure called "Sherman's World - Finding Ghosts." Both books include humor and action to keep even reluctant readers turning the pages until the end. Thank you for checking out the Sherman's World website.
"Sherman’s World - Finding Courage"
This story follows Sherman, a young mouse, as he makes a winter home in a firehouse. There, he meets Gus, a brash, downstate grasshopper, and they become unlikely friends. Sherman starts a training program to become a real firefighter and when spring arrives, his firefighting skills are tested not once but twice!
First, Sherman discovers that he is the only one who can rescue a smelly, wet cat stranded in a tree. Will he do it? And will he succeed and live to tell the story?
Next, Sherman is in the wrong place at the right time when an injured firefighter needs help and other firefighters cannot find him. Will Sherman stay with the firefighter and devise a rescue plan for both of them? What will he do? Will it work?
Humor, action and friendship move this story along in short chapters. Readers 8-10 (120 pages).
"Sherman's World - Finding Ghosts"
It's spring and time for Sherman and Gus to leave the firehouse and return to Sherman's pine woods. After dealing with a bully named Rufus, the two friends hike to a meadow and find an old, abandoned house. Inside the house, they find descendants of mice that came over from France at the time of our Revolution. They also find a ghost who is a bigger and scarier bully than Rufus and has placed a hex on the house so the French mice can never leave.
When they learn that the ghost simply wants to go home to find his family, Sherman and Gus make a deal to help him if he will lift the hex. Will the two friends sort it out and help the ghost find his way to France? And will he keep his promise to them and remove the hex to free their new friends?
Humor, historical references, and action in short chapters. Readers 8-10 (140 pages)
